Define it, baby

Biryani, biriani, beryani or beriani.

According to the good old Wikipedia, it is a:
set of rice-based foods made with spices, rice (usually basmati) and meat, fish, eggs or vegetables. The name is derived from the Persian word beryā(n) (بریان) which means "fried" or "roasted".[1]
What I didn't realise what the amount of VARIATIONS. We have recorded on Wikipedia, 16 Indian versions and 9 International varieties. Eeps.

Guess my research into this glorious dish may turn into something epic.
Immediate idea is once I have perfected the dish, I can successfully tackle the international versions as well.
But let's remember why we are here.
My Indian fella is pretty convinced it is one of the trickest dishes to perfect and so I've taken up the challenge of finding out how to cook it to perfection.

The plan is to read up as much as I can (because, well, I am an info/data geek) and then start testing it out. Might even do some restaurant reviews on the way - can bounce off some ideas from them perhaps!

LET'S DO THIS.

Challenge Accepted

To make the best biryani ever, by a hopeless cook who knows nothing about Indian food.
